Colorado National Monument, 2007

I decided to revisit Colorado National Monument for a spring weekend after hearing about the emerging wildflowers from a photographer friend. It would be my second visit to the national monument - after getting to know the area for the first time late last fall. That experience revealed to me how truly and underrated and underappreciated the park is. Which is fine with me. There are never any crowds. You can enjoy an entire overlook by yourself almost any time. The park offers great scenery year round. And so on. Due to the work waiting for me at the end of the weekend, I needed an easy in/easy out car camping destination. So, with gas prices at a "ridiculous" but not yet "insane" level, I made the four hour drive from my house to the monument. The photographs below are a selection of favorites from my time at the monument. (And please forgive my generic desert flora descriptions, until I figure out how to ID this stuff!)
