Colorado National Monument, 2006
A weekend of photography based in the Grand Junction area gave me first taste of Colorado's red rock country. Colorado National Monument was the highlight of my trip, followed by a brief side trip to nearby Escalante Canyon. Both places are incredibly scenic - each possessing unique qualities that will make you wonder if you're really in Colorado. It was a refreshing departure from the typical Colorado mountain experience. Not that I ever tire of the mountains, but the experience of walking through magical sandstone formations stirs my soul like few places in the natural world. It was a joy to discover that such places exist only a few hours from home. The images of Colorado National Monument were captured mostly in "off trail" areas that I discovered by chance. The photos from the Escalante Creek area were all captured from the main road. (Back to the Journal)
