Autumn in the Tetons, 2009

Autumn in the Tetons, 2009
In September and early October, I spent several days (spread out over a few separate trips) photographing one of America's finest fall colors destinations - Grand Teton National Park. The following portfolio (almost 90 photographs) features my favorite images from my trip. Enjoy!

Winter in Yellowstone Country, 2009
The following is a small collection of photographs made during the winter months of 2009. The images were made in Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and some places in between.

Autumn in the Tetons, 2008
The last week in September is one of the finest times of the year to visit Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. The drama of the imposing Teton Range is somehow elevated to another level, as nearly every color of the spectrum can be found splashed across the landscape. Photographers and sightseers are provided a dizzying array of scenic and photographic opportunities. After spending a week exploring Teton country in the fall for the very first time, I now understand why countless photographers make the annual pilgrimage to this autumn "Mecca".

Wind River Range, 2008
In the summer of 2008, I enjoyed two backpacking trips to the Wind River Range of Wyoming - one 4-day trip on July 14th and one 4-day trip on August 3rd. Both treks were based in the Big Sandy area of the southern part of the range. Highlights included visits to Deep Lake and the Temple Lake cirque. The rugged landscape found in these glacially-carved valleys provided limitless opportunities for photography on both a grand and an intimate scale. The following collection of photos are my favorites from my time in the Wind Rivers - a collection that I expect to build upon in coming years.

Yellowstone Country, 2008
While settling down after our move to SW Montana in March, I managed to escape for a few weekends and explore some of the local attractions. I was eager to get to know my new surroundings, and maybe even shake the dust off my camera. Most of my time was spent simply driving around the portion of Montana and Wyoming known as the "Greater Yellowstone" area. The following gallery features some of my favorite images from spring visits to Yellowstone National Park, the Beartooth Scenic Highway and other lesser known places near home.

Colorado Fall Colors, 2007
The following photos were captured over several days of driving and hiking around the Kebler Pass area near Crested Butte, Colorado - one of my favorite fall colors destinations. Focusing my photographic efforts in one area for several days allowed me to slow down and study the area's amazing views in various lighting and weather conditions. And plenty of purposeful wandering and GPS hiking allowed me to discover some backcountry treasures and hidden viewpoints that are likely rarely seen - let alone photographed. The photos to follow are the result of countless hours spent driving, hiking and photographing in the fall colors paradise that is Gunnison National Forest.

Summer 2007 : Colorado Backpacking
This portfolio contains my favorite images from 12 days of shooting the Colorado high country during June, July and August of 2007. Included are images from the Rawah Wilderness, the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, the Uncompahgre Wilderness and the Sangre de Cristo mountains. It was an incredible summer of exploring new territory and photographing lesser known places. Enjoy the new photos!

Lost Creek Wilderness, 2007
The Lost Creek Wilderness is located less than an hour drive from my house. The proximity factor alone makes it one of my favorite backcountry destinations. But the "favorite" status really has more to do with the spectacular scenery that you can't find in any other wilderness area in Colorado. Instead of soaring peaks and alpine lakes, you'll find granite domes, incredible rock formations and hidden valleys. One such unique feature, Harmonica Arch, was the primary destination for a backpacking trip that some friends and I enjoyed on the first weekend in June.

Colorado National Monument, 2007
With spring snow storms still pounding my hometown, I travelled to western Colorado's canyon and mesa country. A return visit to Colorado National Monument offered the chance to enjoy some warm weather and spring wildflowers.

Flattop Mountain, 2007
Flattop Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park is one of my favorite winter destinations. Although I've dayhiked the trail many times throughout the seasons, I've never camped along the trail - something that can only be done in winter months (due to park regulations). Hoping to get some uniques photos of the area, I spent a cold night on Flattop Mountain.

Colorado National Monument, 2006
A weekend of photography based in the Grand Junction area gave me first taste of Colorado's red rock country. Colorado National Monument was the highlight of my trip, followed by a brief side trip to nearby Escalante Canyon.
